    Bold & Cold Winter Festival- January 2023

    When the air gets cold, Owatonna’s activities heat things up.  Owatonna’s 5th Annual Bold & Cold Festival is a perfect way to enjoy a Minnesota winter!

    Throughout the entire month of January, Owatonna will WOW you with Bold & Cold activities that will keep you moving.

    Plan your winter to coincide with our special  BOLD & COLD events and activities January 23-29 in partnership with Owatonna Park and Recreation, Owatonna People’s Press and Owatonna Business Partnership.

    Sculpture building contest-Vote online mOnday Jan 30th

    January 24-29, Central Park

    January 20: Team Registration Deadline (call 507-444-4321 or click here to register)
    January 24-28: Team Sculpting
    January 30: Vote for your favorite Sculpture online- watch facebook for details.

    Show off your artistry in the sculpture building contest! Each artist or team will work from a 4 ft. cube to display their creativity and wow visitors with their sculpture! Click here for rules, details, and registration!

     Medallion Hunt

    Clues will start publishing daily on January 24th- Update! The Medallion has been found!

    The Medallion Hunt is sponsored by Owatonna Peoples Press and Owatonna Motor Company. Clues will start publishing daily in the Owatonna People’s Press on January 24th with hints appearing on the Owatonna Motor website. You’ll be able to sign up the week before to receive the daily clues via email at SouthernMinn.com/Bold

    Check out the Bold & Cold deals at our local businesses through Owatonna’s Business Partnership. The sales are heating up with some BOLD discounts!

    Carry-out soup supper– On Schedule as planned

    On Friday, Jan 27 from 4-7pm, warm up your heart and soul with the carry out soup supper–$5 per bowl at the Steele County Historical Society .  Call to reserve your wild rice soup or chili orders at 507-451-1420 by January 25th.

    Winter Weekend out

    The 5th Annual Bold & Cold Festival has plenty of winter events to suit everyone’s favorite cold weather activities.

    Owatonna Park & Recreation is back again with their Winter Weekend Out that features fun winter activities! You don’t want to miss these fan favorites, such as  Family Log Rolling, and Rock on Ice, Sculpture Building Contest, Snowshoeing, and Luminary Hike.

    Family Open Swim & Log rolling- On Schedule

    Friday, January 27 from 6:30-8:30pm
    Owatonna Middle School Pool
    Children under age 10 must be accompanied by a parent. Children with lifejackets must be within reach of a parent at all times. ($4 per person)

    Get the family together and head over to the Owatonna Middle School Pool for open swim, and give Log Rolling a try. Lifeguards and a log rolling instructor will be on hand.

    Rock on ice– Rescheduled to Saturday, Feb 4

    Saturday, January 28, 2023, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
    Morehouse Park 
    The Chalet will offer skate rentals and a bonfire. (No cost except skate rentals)

    With music, lights, fun and roller rink-style games- everyone will be Rockin on Ice!  Bring the whole family down, warm up by the bonfire and enjoy a night skating to the music!

    Snowshoeing– Rescheduled to Sunday, Feb 5

    Sunday, January 29, 10am-5pm
    Brooktree Golf Course
    A variety of snowshoe sizes will be available for complimentary use from 10 am until 5 pm.

    Dig out your snowshoes, and head over to Brooktree Golf Course for snowshoe fun! If you don’t have your own, you’ll be able to rent a pair. Warm up with hot cocoa and apple cider when you are done! 

    Luminary Hike– Rescheduled to Sunday, Feb 5

    Sunday, January 29, 5pm-9pm
    Mineral Springs Park

    Finish up the Bold & Cold Weekend out, with a Luminary Hike through Mineral Springs Park. Bundle up, and enjoy the crisp winter walk.

    Open Outdoor ice skating

    Lace up your skates and glide over to Morehouse Park to ice skate.  Don’t worry if you don’t own your own skates, you can rent them from the Warsinksi Chalet at Morehouse Park near downtown Owatonna. The Warsinksi rinks are the only supervised rinks in Owatonna. 

    Local Brews and igloo experiences

    Minnesota’s first cooperatively owned brewpub – Foremost Brewery Cooperative is celebrating their second year of business this year!  This new upscale, casual, beer-centric dining experience features locally-produced craft beers paired with fresh, gourmet pub food.  But, if you’re still looking for a true winter experience you’ll find it at Mineral Springs Brewery while staying toasty in an outdoor igloo.  Bundle up, grab your friends and book your Igloo here today.

    Ride into a winter wonderland

    If your family is looking for a little more adventure and speed, consider snowmobiling.

    Rice Lake State Park and Steele County Trail System are popular locations for snowmobiling. Steele County Trail System is a 175-mile route of groomed snowmobile trails that connects five adjoining counties. Gain a new perspective and appreciation for the beauty of Minnesota’s winter wonderland on the seat of a snowmobile.
